Do you know about the entry requirements for your travel destination? Some countries are still requiring proof of covid vaccination before they will let you enter. You may also need to get tested for covid-19 before you travel.

Trusted information about border requirements

These are the most reliable sources of information about entry requirements for your destination, whether you’re arriving by air, land or sea:

The Centers for Disease Control travel information can help you to work out what you need to do before you travel.

Do I need to get tested for covid-19 before boarding my flight?

The Centers for Disease Control asks that you consider getting tested for covid-19 before you travel. Your airline may also require you to get a test before your flight, or you might just want to get tested for your own peace of mind. It’s best to get this test done no more than three days before you travel.

Do not travel if you test positive for covid-19.

Masks and traveling

The CDC recommends that you wear a mask indoors while traveling, but there is no legal requirement for masking.

There are special masking recommendations for those who have recently recovered from covid-19 and these apply to travelers.

Covid vaccines for travelers

Proof of vaccination may be needed for some journeys. Note that not all governments accept every kind of vaccine. The most widely accepted vaccines are:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Moderna
  • Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen

If some or all of your doses of covid vaccine were with other brands of vaccine, we recommend you check that your vaccination meets the requirements for every border you are crossing.

Anyone who needs a pre-travel covid-19 vaccine can use vaccines.gov to search for the nearest covid-19 vaccine center to you.

Are there other health-related border requirements?

At some borders you may need to show a yellow fever certificate, or proof that you have been vaccinated against polio. These requirements depend on your itinerary, and which countries you have visited previously.

It is best to consult a travel health nurse six to eight weeks before your trip, as they can tell you which shots you’ll need, and issue any travel health certificates. Make an appointment with Global Travel Clinics today.
